I want to open an account with Patria Finance, a subsidiary of ČSOB. How do I do it?

You can register with Patria Finance online, where you simply confirm the processing of your personal data and provide the required information. If you use BankID, the process is completed without the need for identity documents or a verification payment. Without BankID, you must upload two forms of identification and send a verification payment from your own account. You will then sign the contract electronically. Registration can also be completed in person at the Patria Finance headquarters or at ČSOB branches.

ETF

What are ETFs?

By purchasing an ETF (Exchange Traded Fund), you typically invest in shares, bonds, and other investment instruments from a specific sector. With a single payment, you can invest in dozens or hundreds of companies focused on, for example, technology or a specific region.

Some ETFs track indices, such as the S&P 500. This index contains the 500 largest publicly traded companies in the USA, including Apple, Google, or Amazon. The advantage of an ETF is its low management costs, as simply tracking an existing index can be done automatically using an algorithm.

What is currency risk and currency hedging?

Currency risk is the risk that the exchange rate of the currency in which you are investing will change against the Czech Koruna (CZK) – thereby changing the value of your investment in CZK. For example, if you invest in a US fund in USD and the value of the fund in dollars rises, but the dollar weakens against the Czech Koruna, your return in CZK may be lower, zero, or even negative, even if the fund performed well in USD. Currency risk can therefore increase or decrease your return, depending on how exchange rates move.

Currency hedging is a way to limit or eliminate the impact of exchange rate fluctuations on an investment. Effectively, the investor "locks in" the exchange rate between the foreign currency and the Czech Koruna. The investment return then more closely reflects the performance of the fund itself, rather than the currency.

Within the ČSOB Group, we offer currency-hedged versions for a range of funds. For those who prefer clarity and peace of mind, this is a significant advantage.

Is currency hedging always beneficial?

Currency hedging reduces the uncertainty associated with exchange rates, but at the same time, it can limit the positive impact of a strengthening foreign currency. Exchange rate movements can decrease returns if the foreign currency weakens against the Czech Koruna, or increase returns if the foreign currency strengthens against the Czech Koruna.

Are mutual funds always currency-hedged?

In the ČSOB range, you will find currency-hedged, partially hedged, and unhedged mutual funds. Regardless of a mutual fund’s hedging, a general advantage of investing in funds is that a portfolio manager monitors exchange rate movements for you and capitalizes on potential benefits.

You can find all hedged mutual funds on the website in the Fund Overview by using the "Other Parameters" filter. You can always find out whether a specific investment product is hedged in the product factsheet, the Key Investor Information Document (KIID/KID), or other product materials.

Is it possible to invest in ETFs regularly?

Yes. Regular investment is an excellent step for growing your money from a long-term perspective. You can purchase ETFs regularly as part of your standard portfolio, as well as through a Long-term Investment Product (DIP).

Can ETFs be sold at any time?

Yes, an ETF is an investment instrument that you can sell at the current market price. There are two ways. If you are selling a full unit, the sale is settled immediately if the market is open. If you are carrying out a so-called fractional sale (selling partial units), settlement will always take place on the next occurring 15th day.

Where can I buy ETFs within the ČSOB Group?

You can buy ETFs through Patria Finance, a subsidiary of ČSOB. You can use the Patria Finance mobile app or the WebTrader web platform.

Where can I find an overview of ETF performance?

In the Patria Finance mobile app or the WebTrader web platform.

What are the fees associated with buying ETFs?

Fees associated with the purchase of full and fractional ETF units are governed by the fee schedule and depend on the type of trade. If you make a one-off ETF purchase, the fee will be determined by the settlement market. For purchases made via a regular investment plan, the fee is the same for all markets. You can find specific details directly when placing a buy order in the app you are using (the Patria Finance mobile app or the WebTrader web platform).

About investment

What is the purpose of the investment questionnaire?

The investment questionnaire is a tool that shows us what type of investor you are. Through it, we ascertain your knowledge and experience of investing, your financial situation and capacity for loss, your investment goals and time horizon, your risk appetite (how you handle fluctuations in the value of an investment), and your sustainability preferences (ESG). Based on your answers, we determine your investment profile and evaluate whether a given investment instrument is suitable and appropriate for you. Completing the questionnaire is quick, directly within the mobile app or web platform; you will know the result immediately and can update it at any time to reflect your current life situation.

Do I have to complete the investment questionnaire?

Completing the investment questionnaire has its advantages. It opens up a wide range of instruments in line with your investment profile.

If you decline to complete the questionnaire, you can still invest in the basic range of shares and selected ETFs—instruments that can be traded without an appropriateness assessment.

In short, without the questionnaire, you get a quick start with shares and selected ETFs; with the questionnaire, you gain full access to the Patria Finance range and analytical tools, with the assurance that you are investing in a way that makes sense for your profile.

What is a Long-term Investment Product (DIP)?

The DIP is a product used for tax-advantaged investing or saving. By investing over a longer horizon, it is possible to achieve higher returns. You can invest in shares, bonds, ETFs, mutual funds, and other instruments. The goal is to prepare for retirement; unlike a traditional pension plan, you can choose how and what you want to invest in.

How can I get zero entry fees?

Simply set up a regular investment into selected funds during the promotional period using the ČSOB Smart mobile app or via the Investment Portal. You will not pay fees for the entire duration of the regular investment. The promotion is valid from 1 July 2025 to 31 December 2026. More details can be found in the promotion terms and conditions.

Zero entry fees also apply to your regular investment into exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which you can choose from the wide range offered by Patria Finance, a subsidiary of ČSOB. In this case, too, you simply need to actively use an account with ČSOB. This also applies to existing regular investments in ETFs. More about the promotion in the terms and conditions.
