Principles of the safe use of CSOB Electronic Banking

  1. Protect your personal certificate and its private key
Personal certificate replaces your personal signature. Therefore, you shall protect it from misuse by third parties. CSOB has chosen one of the safest carriers to store the certificate – a chip card. The certificate cannot be taken out of it nor can the certificate be used without the card. Therefore, you shall also protect your chip card and not disclose the security PIN to anybody.

  2. Do not use a simple PIN
You can change the PIN to the chip card to access the service as you wish. Therefore, always choose PIN which is not simple and easy to guess. On principle, do not use dates of birth, parts of phone numbers, subsequent digits and the like. Also use the longest possible length of the PIN.

  3. Protect your PIN
Do not write the PIN anywhere. Recording the PIN on paper, in the computer, in the purse, in the diary, in the phone, on the chip card or on the payment card is quite inappropriate. In your computer, do not ever allow remembering the password. Do not disclose the PIN to anybody, not even to your family members. Please destroy the original of the envelope with the PIN or store it in a safe place (e.g., in a safe). You shall not keep the PIN in a place where you keep your personal documents either.

  4. Protect your computer (incl. the operating system and Internet browser)
Please regularly monitor the patches issued by producers of operating systems. With such patches, you can correct mistakes and deficiencies of such systems. For example, a procedure designed to keep the system Microsoft Windows secure is available at www.microsoft.com/cze/athome/security/protect/.

  5. Use a safe computer
When working with Internet banking, please only use safe computers that are fully under your control. This means that you can influence their security set-up. Home computers and possibly also firm computers are considered safe. In any case, we do not recommend computers you do not know anything about (for example, computers in Internet coffee-houses or in various clubs).

  6. Protect your computer from viruses and spyware
Use antivirus and anti-spyware programs. Update them regularly so that they are as efficient as possible. Please follow regular information about possible threats and new viruses on the Internet (e.g., at www.microsoft.com/cze/security or www.virovyradar.cz).

  7. Set up a firewall to protect your computer
Connect to the Internet through a firewall (a program or technology) to minimise the risk of unauthorised access to your computer from the Internet. The firewall will only process Internet-based inquiries you authorise; all other potentially dangerous data will be filtered out. You can download a personal firewall, for example, from www.kerio.cz or www.zonealarm.com free of charge. Windows XP already contains a personal firewall; it is sufficient if you activate it.

  8. Do not download unknown files from the Internet
Visit only well-known and trustworthy Internet sites. Please avoid downloading unknown files from the Internet (especially those ending with the extension .EXE) to your computer. Apart from their original purpose, such files may also install dangerous programs in your computer.

  9. Beware of untrustworthy e-mails
Do not open e-mail messages from unknown senders or messages with a suspicious name or content. In any case, you shall not open attachments to such messages; you shall delete such messages without opening them. Never react to an e-mail which requires you to disclose your personal data, passwords or PIN. CSOB will never require such data from you in such a way.

  10. Improve your security by means of SMS or e-mail messages
In the CSOB Info 24 service, you can opt for being sent messages on all transactions involving your account or your payment card. For more information about the service, see CSOB Info 24.

  11. Improve the security of your SMS messages
If you establish CSOB Mobil 24, you will be able to receive encoded information and authorisation SMS messages from CSOB (their reading is protected by the BPIN).

  12. Beware of phishing (unoriginal web sites)
Please take into account that CSOB presents its websites at the address: www.csob.cz. Any other websites, similar in terms of their address or graphical design, may be dangerous, and we do not recommend to visit them.

  13. Be careful in logging-in at the web sites of Internet banking
Please check the existence of the icon "lock” in your Internet browser (on the bar of the window right on the top or down – it depends on the concrete browser) before logging-in at the log-on page of the Internet banking (at the address https://ib24.csob.cz or https://bb24.csob.cz). After clicking the icon, the certificate will be displayed to confirm the validity and verify the identity of the web site.

To secure such web sites, CSOB uses server certificates of the company GlobalSign.

If you have any doubts about the issuer of the certificate, please do not continue the process of logging-in and contact our Helpdesk EB by phone on +420 495 800 111, or possibly by e-mail to HelpdeskEB@csob.cz.
